I have a Windows PC using Windows 10 and iTunes and an Apple iPod touch
using iTunes and being capable, apparently of playing podcasts.

I have asked for help before but never actually achieved anything.

Is there anyone who can really explain how I identify and then subscribe
or download podcasts using the equipment I have?

I am so much of a numpty with all of this :(

Open iTunes on the PC.

Top Left under the menu items change Music to Podcasts

It should say "Welcome to Podcasts"

Press continue - it changes to Podcasts - click Podcasts in the iTunes
store

Type DumTeeDum in the search box

Press return.

Hit Get for an episode and voila.

Hope this helps.

I can't help with iTunes, iPod, or "subscribing". "Downloading" I can do
but not very simply (well, simple enough to me but not to explain).

If just _listening_ to a podcast will do - in Windows on a PC:

Go to https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds .
Click on the magnifying glass top right.
Type in something hopeful in the box that appears. I'll try Archers.
A lost of related things appear (as you type!), including a list of
episodes in this case.
Keep clicking on hopeful-sounding things until you get a play button
(triangle) that works.

For direct to the Archers (which I use when I've missed an episode):
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpgr (note it doesn't usually show
the latest episode until a few minutes after the broadcast has
finished). Most other prog.s have a similar obscure string of letters
and numbers.

For TV rather than "sounds", the equivalent starting place is
https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer . For catching up on something I've just
missed, I find the easiest way is to click on Channels, then the
relevant one (such as ONE), then the schedule (in my case it says "BBC
One South East Schedule"), then scroll back up to find it; that only
goes back to the current day, though. Like "sounds", you can't usually
click on what's currently being broadcast until a few minutes after it's
finished, though there's often the option to watch it "live" (it
actually is a few tens of seconds after the actual broadcast), which is
no good if you want to watch it from the beginning (though there's often
a button for that too).

P. S. - if you've not used these sites before, you may have to log in,
say you have a TV licence, or similar; once done once, it remembers
(though I think you have to repeat the process if you change device or
even browser).

"Dook, that was great but I think the line needs
awe. Can you do it again, giving it just a little awe?"

"Sure, George," said Wayne and looking up at the cross said:
"Aw, truly this man is the son of God."

Thank you. Not quite as you described but I think I've got there. Now
to see if they turn up on my iPod.

Happy to assist.

Obviously if you want it podcasts other than on an "i" device there are
sources other than iTunes - but it is sometimes a little more
complicated when a new podcast has not been migrated to all potential
distributors.

For BBC ones, I have no (well, little) difficulty in finding them on
this (Windows 7) device, just by going to https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds
and poking around a bit. No idevices or isoftware in sight.

There are of course many podcasts for which the BBC has no
responsibility or knowledge. I use Beyond Pod on my phone which has
been a bit temperamental this week for no obvious reason. Probably
means I need a new phone.

Spotify has got lots of podcasts and is easily used on an Android or
Windows device.

It's just been announced that Neil Young is ceasing to withhold his
music catalogue from Spotify. Does that mean that a)the podcaster Joe
Rogan has left Spotify b)Neil Young has accepted that continuing to
protest isn't going to get him anywhere or c)Neil Young is missing the
royalty money? Or, I suppose, d)some or all of the above.

It did annoy me that Spotify put a fat, racist, misogynist,
trumpenproletariat bigot before one of the giants of popular music (and
one of my favourites.

But I wasn't going to let it bring me down.
