Only I'm thinking of getting one.

Yeap, darn good idea! I have done roast dinner for 5 in ours (2 drawers,
total 9 L.) The meat was first slow cooked and then finished off in the AF
but the rest was all cooked in it. Used daily almost and more economic than
the combi microwave cooker - and quicker!

Don’t think: do. These days a lot of well known companies are selling them
even in Lidl so presumably Aldi for very good prices. McT is much attached
to ours, as is Wunderkind. We bought the same as hers but seeing all the
usual high street names are selling them, you’ll find one you’ll
appreciate.

So I succumbed. I got a Lakeland own-brand model although on inspection
it's obviously a badged American OEM product as its menu offers presets
for such atrocities as "fries" and "shrimp".

I have evaluated it with a half-shoulder of lamb (something I'd normally
slow-cook). The recipe I found said 40 minutes at 190° but that left it
rather pinker than I like (and I like it quite pink). Perhaps I should
have pre-heated, I don't know. I gave it another 15 minutes and now I'm
happy. It's crispy where it should be crispy, succulent where it
shouldn't, carves easily without falling apart and yielded enough juice
for an excellent gravy, enough for just me.

I'm impressed so far, although I think I will need to get accustomed to
its foibles. Not sure how to get rid of the 'fries' and 'shrimp'
though. (shrimp are wee things that you pot in butter, don't put in an
oven.

Why is it called an air fryer when it appears to do just about
everything /except/ fry?

We bought a small one about a year ago. It didn't get put in the back of
the cupboard behind the juicer and the toasted sandwich maker, it's in
almost daily use.

Perhaps the expression: ‘Best thing since sliced bread’ will be replaced
with ‘Best thing since air fryers’ in due course.😉

Brush with oil or butter both sides, then cook, turning once.

I just use a bread knife. Anyway, mostly our bread is home (machine) made.

I've done Garlic Bread slices (thank you, Iceland) in mine - almost the
same thing as fried bread, I think.

I don't know what the connection is between Iceland and Cathedral City,
but Iceland seem to have an exclusive on various CC products, one of
which is a Cottage Pie To those who don't snub all "ready meals" I
highly recommend CC CP.

I liked John Martyn, I saw him at The Sheffield University Student's
Union, with Danny Thompson playing the upright bass. Paul Kossoff was in
the audience, and was invited to jam with them, but he was too far off
his head. Of course, John Martyn could get a bit legless later on.

Last time I tried, I had difficulty using one. I've since discovered
there are left-handed ones (no, I'm not kidding: it's to do with how
it's ground - the two sides are _not_ identical), but never got round to
trying one. (And to be honest, doubt I'm going to now.)
