Bram Moolenaar, the creator of the vim editor, passed away on August 3.
"Bram dedicated a large part of his life to VIM and he was very proud of
the VIM community that you are all part of." He will be missed.

I love vim, but I loved vi for years. For me, both worked
everywhere on everything, not something you can say about other
text editors

Quite so, another couple of years and I'll have been using vi or
vim as my editor of choice for forty years - the first week or so was hell
and then it baked into the reflexes.

There was a short[2] period were I tried to switch to Brief[1]
which had one of the most intuitive keyboard interfaces ever designed
(which is not something that can be said of vi). I managed to use it
every time I thought about it, but every time I just wanted to edit a file
my fnigers tryped vi <filename>. I gave up, which is just as well Brief is
long vanished and vi is *still* everywhere[95], even on the work Macbook out
of the box!

[95] OK not on toys like Windows - but it can be
[1] by Under Ware
[2] I resisted!
