I read that Leyland Cypress make good evergreen hedges, but the roots can cause trouble if too near a house.
If a leyland hedge is kept trimmed Low say five feet high, would that keep the roots relatively small and less harmful ?

Leyland cypress needs careful attention: give it it's head and you have
a forest tree in no time.

You also have to remember that you can't cut it back beyond the green:
it won't shoot from ripe wood. Unless you really let it go, the roots
are no problem.

Leyland Cypress makes a dreadful hedge and should never be planted
anywhere, at some point you will end up with it either too big or with
brown patches. Use evergreens that can be cut hard back, best bet is Yew
but there are others

I've had a thuga hedge for years - very good and a bit faster than yew
which is faster than bloody box :-)

Ans a lot less wild than cupressus
