Just a "heads up" that Sky are covering this match. They seem to be
covering more Championship matches than in recent years, which has to be
a good thing. On the first day the commentators were Atherton, Ward,
Butcher, Cork and Lydia Greenway. At different points during the day
Butcher was commentating with his former England opening partner and
with his former Surrey opening partner.

Apparently he's being rested, as seems to be fashionable these days even
for batsmen. Whether that was his wish or England's I don't know.

>quite a collapse for middx on thursday from 160-1 to 209 ao.

Yep. Apparently after the break for rain/lunch, Surrey bowled a better
length. Even so, it was a startling collapse.

He was just about the quickest on show. Not quick quick, though. And as for count of members, Saturday had the buzz almost of a Test match it was that busy in and around the Pavilion and nearby stands.

Anyone would think you spend your life on this newsgroup...

Yes, I was there. Thursday and Saturday. Do I have to post photos to prove it again that you'll conveniently ignore?

Why do you find it so hard to believe that Richard, who is clearly a
cricket enthusiast or he wouldn't follow and post in this newsgroup,
would go to watch a cricket match? That you clearly dislike him is NOT
sufficient grounds for disbelieving him.

He doesn't. He doesn't believe even half the things he writes.
He is just attention-seeking. For as long as Richard replies, Robert
will write another daft response; or, if RD doesn't reply, he'll get
an equally daft "still waiting" response. People just have to ignore
him. Better yet, KF him. It's years since he wrote anything genuinely
worth reading about cricket [cut-n-paste jobs from the Telegraph or from
ancient books don't count, nor do "from memory" lists of LFM bowlers for
Derbyshire in the 19thC, nor do "these 3 pure-white cricketers have made
their f-c debut" articles].

He neither dislikes nor disbelieves him. He just likes getting
a rise out of him. He reminds me of those twats at school who weren't
your friends but came towards you holding a hand out, as though to shake
and make up, but withdrew it and pretended to scratch their noses if ever
you responded. They, like Robert, thought it was funny.

ObCricket: Good to see Sir Alastair still making stylish runs so
long after retiring from Test cricket. It would be even better if he
didn't do it against Notts!

I think it's either "his little fun game" or he's mentally ill. If the former, he's a bit odd, if the latter, he has my sympathy.

But honestly: imagine being in your 70s and spending all your day on newsgroups trying to wind people up? That's the most tragic element of it.

Ah, but he does it with the authority of the state behind him.
