As they MCC only anticipate another 1,000 seats will be built it is a little difficult to see why much will be gained in terms of gate receipts. rH

Looks like the village idiot has posted some baloney about the overdue
replacement of the Allen and Tavern Stands.

Since I've been a Member, we've replaced all of the popular stands.
During that period, the only Members' facility which been upgraded has
been the Warner Stand.

But little else has been done for our facilities. The Tavern Stand is
horribly uncomfortable and the hostility suites in it were pretty
ropey 40 years ago and are now a disgrace. When Q Stand was renovated
to become the Allen Stand, it was supposed to solve a few problems,
which arguably it did, but at the cost of creating several new ones,
so this gives an excellent opportunity to do it properly.

Bear in mind that these stands are for Members and their guests, so
what business it is of the village idiot what we put there is entirely
unclear.

Oh dear, master Unwholesome does not understand the relationship between Middlesex members and the MCC. Middlesex members have access to any of the stands when Middlesex are playing . As for facilities the Warner stand has been completely rebuilt and has provision for a three course meal.

To be clear, design decisions for Lord's are (nearly) always about
providing the best possible facilities for the Saturday of the Ashes
Test, because that is the day which the largest number of Members
attend. (The exceptions are alterations in the practice facilities in
the Indoor School and making sure that the Nursery ground is still
suitable for minor matches.)

That's another point which has to be taken into account: the condition
of the Tavern and Allen Stands is very poor, so it's cheaper to knock
them down and build new facilities than preserve old facilities to
please those whose obsession is resurrecting the 1950s.
