I went to Lords yesterday but it was Middlesex v Sussex not Essex. I was done by misreading the minute Playfair Annual print of the fixture list.

Another large crowd probably around 20 thousand -all stand were fully open apart from the top ties of the Mound , Grandstand, Tavern and the Edrich and Compton stands.

Sussex win by 4 runs

Looked at the bare scores you might conclude it was a thrilling match, Sadly it was like so many T20 matches utterly formulaic by slogging made all the more annoying by spectators constantly shuffling backwards and forwards , scoreboards in pink (making them next to illegible), moronic bursts of flame and snatches from songs .

Utterly depressing if this is to be the future of cricket.
