People living across Essex will face travel disruption on May 28 when around 25,000 cyclists take part in RideLondon. The huge number of riders will start in central London and travel through Essex towns, villages and countryside before returning to the capital on 60-mile and 100-mile routes.

The event is returning for a second year having been successful in it's inaugural year in 2022. But it's not without any controversy, with Ongar Town Council saying the event can sometimes result in residents being unable to leave in their cars for the whole day.

According to RideLondon, road closures will start at 5am and will continue till 6.30pm. Several roads in certain areas will be closed longer than others as participants cycle in a loop and return back to London to finish the race.

Event organisers are reportedly working with Essex and London police services and other organisations to ensure a range of measures are implemented to maintain safety and security. Read the full list of road closures in Essex below and more information can be found here.

A spokesperson for the event said: "To make the event safe and memorable for all, road closures will be required in some areas of Essex and London."

They added: "Road closures will be in place in some areas of Chelmsford, Epping Forest and Uttlesford on Sunday 28 May for the mass participation rides, significantly impacting parts of these districts."
