A cyclist has been left fighting for his life after being hit by a car in Grimsby.

He was struck by a car on Carnforth Crescent on the Grange estate before it fled the scene. He has sustained life-threatening injuries and remains in a critical condition.

Humberside Police erected a large cordon along the street and Crime Scene Investigators were spotted laying out cones and collecting evidence. The Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance was also in attendance along with a number of other emergency service vehicles.

The cyclist's family are being supported by specialist officers. Police were called to the crash on Sunday, 21 May, at around 5.20pm with officers remaining at the scene until late evening.

Humberside Police are now asking anyone with information that could help identify those in the car to come forward. It said: "We were called to the scene of a road traffic collision between a car and a cyclist at 5.20pm on Sunday 21 May 2023 on Carnforth Crescent in Grimsby.

"It is reported that a cyclist was struck by the car and the vehicle fled the scene. The cyclist has sustained serious and life-threatening injuries in the collision and remains in hospital in a critical condition. His family have been informed and are being supported by our officers.

"Our enquiries are ongoing to identify and locate those in the car and are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 458 of 21 May 2023."
