A 31-year-old motorist was held on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs following a crash with a cyclist. The biker was left with 'potentially serious injuries' after a collision earlier today, Friday, May 26.

The collision happened near to Longbridge Island on Bristol Road South and Lickey Road, at about 10.45am. West Midlands Ambulance Service crews were dispatched to the scene to treat the 37-year-old man before he was transported to Birmingham's Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Officers closed part of the island on Lickey Road along with part of the junction with Longbridge Lane and the A38. A bike was seen within the cordon on the roundabout.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman told BirminghamLive: "We were called to a collision on Lickey Road, Longbridge just before 11am today (26 May). It’s understood a car crashed with a cyclist near to the junction with Bristol Road South.

"A 37-year-old man has been taken to hospital with a head injury. We arrested a 31-year-old man at the scene on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs. He remains in custody for questioning."

An ambulance service spokeswoman told BirminghamLive: "We were called at around 10.45am to reports of an RTC at the junction of Bristol Road South and the A38 in Longbridge, Birmingham. An ambulance and the West Midlands CARE Team were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered a car and a cyclist had been involved in a collision.

"Ambulance staff treated the cyclist, a man, for potentially serious injuries before taking him to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for further treatment."
