Violent e-bike robbery gang stole £43k of jewellery from one victim in
London street

The victim was kicked and punched while one attacked threatened him with a
knife

Four men have been jailed for a total of almost 39 years after a violent
attack on a man in central London. They made off with £43,000 of jewellery
after punching and kicking their victim to the ground and threatening him
with a knife.

The man was left shaken and was lucky not to suffer any serious injuries.
All four of the culprits were riding e-bicycles during the attack, which
took place on November 21, 2020 at around 7.30pm outside a hotel in
Stratton Street, Mayfair. The attackers made off with a Rolex watch worth
£25,000 and two diamond rings worth £9,000 each.

The Metropolitan Police’s elite Flying Squad detectives took on the
investigation. The detectives were able to track and identify the
attackers, three of whom were arrested in April 2021.

They men appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on February 4 and were
sentenced at the same court on Friday, March 18. The heaviest sentencing
was handed to knife-wielder Alan Kelly, 27, of Moray Road, Islington was
sentenced to 10 years and nine months' imprisonment.

Alan’s older brother David Kelly, 37, of HMP Highdown, Surrey was sentenced
to nine years and eight months' imprisonment. Meanwhile, accomplices Corrie
Moroney, 29, of Highbury New Park, Islington was sentenced to nine years'
imprisonment, and Lewis Sokhi, 28, of Englefield Road, Islington was
sentenced to nine years' imprisonment.

CCTV and phone investigations had captured all four at the Kelly’s home in
Moray Road at around 5pm on the evening of the attack. The group left on
their e-bikes and at 6:50pm they were placed in the vicinity of Brompton
Road, near Harrods, where they conducted an unsuccessful trawl of the
surrounding streets.

The group later moved on to the Mayfair area where they launched their
attack on the victim, who had just left the hotel to get in his car.
Security staff at the hotel attempted to help him, but the group fled. The
judge, Philip Brook Smith QC also issued Serious Crime Prevention Orders
(SCPOs) banning them using e-bicycles after their release.

The results today are a clear warning to anyone else concerned in such
offences that whatever tactics you use, the MPS will investigate you, we
will find you, and we’ll do everything in our power to make sure you go to
prison.”

DC Reed added: “This was a truly horrible experience for the victim who was
just going about his evening when he was attacked. He no doubt feared for
his life. I’d like to thank him for supporting us through the investigation
and judicial process."
