MAIN TEXT - Police in Hackney are making a public appeal to any drivers
with dash-cam footage relating to an assault on a cyclist at a zebra
crossing.

At around 11am on Saturday 13 May the male cyclist was involved in a
collision with a female child on a zebra crossing in Lauriston Road, E9.

The child is not believed to have suffered any injuries as a result of
the incident.

Immediately after the incident, the cyclist was approached by a man who
punched him in the face before leaving the scene. The suspect is not
believed to have been known to the child.

The cyclist was taken to hospital by a friend where he was diagnosed
with a broken jaw and required to undergo extensive surgery.

Officers from Hackney CID are investigating and are appealing to any
drivers who may have been in the area at the time and could have
dash-cam footage to come forward.

So why isn’t the cyclist being investigated for the pedestrian crossing
collision??

19. Zebra crossings. Give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop
before you start to cross. Vehicles will need more time when the
road is slippery. Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions
or the road is clear before crossing. Remember that traffic does not
have to stop until someone has moved onto the crossing. Keep
looking both ways, and listening, in case a driver or rider has not
seen you and attempts to overtake a vehicle that has stopped.

We aren't talking about traffic. We are talking about cyclopaths. The
majority of them don't even know that they have to accord precedence to
pedestrians on zebra crossings.
