A man is accused of running over a cyclist to the danger of his life while in a race with another car.

John Skilling, 24, allegedly struck Malcolm Crook near Glasgow's Barrachnie on July 21 2021.

Court papers state Skilling caused Mr Crook serious injury by driving his vehicle dangerously.

It is claimed that Skilling revved his engine at another car and drove at excessive speed.

The charge says Skilling "drove at speeds of up to 50 miles per hour and engaged in a race with another car."

Skilling is claimed to have cut out in front of a motor vehicle on the road and undertook cars on a bus lane.

Allegations state that Skilling failed to keep proper lookout and maintain observations on the road ahead.

It is claimed that he failed to observe Mr Crook cycling there and did not brake in sufficient time.

Mr Crook is said to have been struck by the car before being thrown from his bicycle.

He is then stated to have landed on Skilling's car bonnet and then on the road.

The alleged offence is said to have been to Mr Crook's severe injury, permanent impairment and danger of life.

Skilling, of the city's Ruchazie, denies the single charge.

A trial at Glasgow Sheriff Court will take place in September.
