A woman fractured a cyclist’s chest after knocking him down at a roundabout.

Van driver Mohammed “did not see” Mr Conn travelling from her offside.

The victim was thrown into the air and landed on the road.

Mr Conn also suffered ligament damage in his neck as well as three fractured vertebrae.

First offender Mohammed pled guilty to careless driving where Mr Conn was seriously injured at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Thursday.

The court heard that Mr Conn was travelling home when he approached a mini roundabout on Woodside Avenue.

Mohammed, of the city’s Partick, was also travelling towards the roundabout.

Prosecutor Caitlin O’Hare said: “Mohammed brought her van to a stop but failed to look properly for oncoming traffic to her offside.

“She proceeded on the roundabout whereby she struck Mr Conn on his bike.

“This caused him to be thrown onto the carriageway.”

Members of the public attended to Mr Conn at the scene before he was taken to hospital where he was held for four nights.

Ms O’Hare said the cyclist suffered three fractured vertabraes in his chest and a torn ligament in his neck.

Paul McCormack, defending, told the court that Mohammed had been driving for seven years with no endorsements on her licence.

The lawyer said: “She accepts she didn’t see the cyclist and suggests perhaps that her view was interrupted by foliage and did not have a clear view for a reasonable distance.

“Her view is she didn’t see the cyclist and she is at fault..”

Sheriff Philip Mackinnon fined Mohammed £470 and disqualified her from driving for 108 days.
