Three boys have been arrested after a Gloucestershire cyclist was hit in the face with a piece of wood. A public appeal was launched on Thursday, June 15 following reports four teenagers shouted abuse at the victim before hitting him across the face in Cirencester.

Gloucestershire Constabulary said the incident took place on the bridge over the A429 at around 7.15pm on Tuesday, June 13. The victim, a man in his 50s, was cycling along Somerford Road when he was approached by four teenagers.

The group reportedly shouted abuse at the man before hitting him with the wood, leaving him with face and head injuries which required hospital treatment. The group are then said to have ran away towards the Trinity Road area..

Two boys, both aged 15, were arrested after information was provided following the appeal. A third boy, aged 14, handed himself in at a police station on Saturday night, police say.

The three boys have since been released on bail with conditions which include not to associate with each other.
