I see that a 'newspaper' (if you can call it that) suggests that one in
three of men will retreat to The Shed on Christmas Day pretending that
they have a DIY task on the go.

This denizen of The Shed will be busy, on Chistmas Day, in the kitchen
and in the shed, with tasks that SWMBO will find for this denizen. No
retreat here.

I will make a several of offers to assist SMBO,which will be turned down
with increasing impatience as she works herself into a frenzy cooking
dinner. So I'll chat to the Lad, who'll be visiting us for a few days, and
maybe wander off to the pub for a short while.

I'd be tempted to try your 'lifestyle'.
Here, there is no hiding place at Christmas since when SWMBO is
over-busy, everyone[1] gets to be busy.

I remember those days .

Vanish to the pub, get shouted at for not helping.
Stay in and offer to help get shouted at for being "under her feet".

Ah Christmas, stroll on the 26th.

The X^6 and I are booked into a hotel for four days over Christmas. We
expect to get pampered.

Also taking mobility scootererers in me new trailer so we can explore
the extensive hotel grounds and woods nearly.

I'm giving her a new scootererer for Christmas. I think I'm getting a
pair of socks and some hankies!

Before I met the ¬X I did just that. My mother came down from Manchester
and I 'up' from London and met in a very nice hotel in Cirenchester. We
were pampered. Wonderful lunch and in the evening there was a table
groaning with a cold buffet. The bar stayed open until the last visitor
went to bed.

Unfortunately the ¬X is too much of a skinflint, unless we bought along
daughter and grandchildren.

(For the non-mathematicians amongst us ¬ is the Boolean symbol for
'not')
