A TEENAGE boy suffered a leg injury in a hit-and-run after a car reportedly jumped a red light while he was cycling across the road.

Police are appealing for information following a report of the collision involving a teenage cyclist and a car in Newton-le-Willows yesterday morning, Monday.

It was reported that the incident happened at around 8.20am, when a 13-year-old boy and two friends were crossing Ashton Road.

A report to police said the pedestrian traffic lights, near to Hope Academy, they were at showed a green man.

The driver of a white car drove reportedly went through a red light, resulting in the boy coming off his bike and onto the bonnet of the car.

Police said it was further reported that the driver failed to stop to check on the boy’s condition and drove off.

A police spokesman said the youngster sustained a slight injury to his leg.

They added: "An investigation is underway to identify the driver and the vehicle, which is believed to be white BMW, to help with inquiries.

"Officers are appealing for witnesses and drivers who were in the vicinity at that time to come forward to help with the investigation."
