A cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision in Loughborough last night (Friday). The vehicle suspected to have been involved was later found burned out.

Leicestershire Police officers were called to Ling Road in the town just after 8pm after getting reports of a silver Audi S3 knocking down a cyclist. Paramedics and the air ambulance also attended the incident, but the cyclist, who people in the area have said was a man, could not be saved.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. Ling Road remained shut in both directions for about five hours while police examined the scene.

In a statement issued this afternoon, police said: "A silver Audi S3, which was also believed to have been involved in the collision, was reported to have left the scene. A vehicle matching this description was subsequently later found on fire in Frederick Street and has been recovered by police.

"Following inquiries carried out a 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a 40-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They all remain in police custody at this time.

"We are appealing for witnesses to the collision, anyone with dashcam from the area at that time or anyone who saw the silver Audi S3 before or following the collision.
