A cyclist has been seriously injured in a collision with a truck on a major road in the Highlands.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene on the A9 near Dalwhinnie at around 2.30am following reports a man had sustained injuries in a crash.

Police shut the road for more than three hours while the 44-year-old was treated by paramedics.

He was later transported to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness while an initial investigation at the scene was completed.

His condition is unknown but he remains under observation at the medical facility.

A 31-year-old man has been arrested for alleged road traffic offences in connection with the incident.

The road reopened at 5.45am, Police Scotland said.

A spokesperson for the force added: “Around 2.25 am on Sunday, July 9, police were called to a road crash on the A9 at Dalwhinnie involving a cyclist and a lorry.

“The 44-year-old male cyclist was taken by ambulance to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness where he remains for treatment.

“A 31-year-old man has been arrested for alleged road traffic offences.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
