Rider of e-scooter injured in crash on Botley Road
16th July

An e-scooter rider suffered 'serious facial injuries' after she crashed
with a car in Oxford.

The woman, who is in her 20s, collided with a white Ford Focus on Botley
Road at the junction with Abbey Road at 1am on July 8.

She was treated at the John Radcliffe Hospital, but has since been
discharged.

No arrests have been made.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for specific witnesses to the road
traffic collision.

Investigating officer PC Robert Crofts, of the Joint Operations Roads
Policing Unit, said: “I am appealing for any witnesses to this collision,
whereby a woman has sustained serious injuries, to please come forward.

“Numerous people came out onto the street after the collision however they
had left the scene prior to our arrival.

“These may be crucial independent witnesses that can assist our
investigation so I would ask anyone who was there and hasn’t spoken to us
to please get in touch.

“You can do so by calling the 24-hour non-emergency number 101 or by making
a report on our website, quoting reference number 43230301581.

“Also, if you were driving in the area around the time of the collision and
have a dash-cam, I’d also ask that you check any recordings in case it has
captured something that could assist our investigation. You can upload any
footage to our dedicated online portal."

Is Oxford one of those misguided places where so-called "e-scooters" are
road legal (if hired from the local concessionaire)?

Or are they just illegal there?

Who knows? Oxford is a place to stay away from, so perhaps that’s a moot
point…

Well... that's true enough. I haven't voluntarily been in central Oxford
since 2004, though I had a couple of one day jobs there about five years
ago.
