Well, that was interesting.

An appointment with Nurse Lisa. Several breathing tests done. Blowing a
car along a road and keeping it out of the hedge. Lighting up a block of
flats by blowing a windmill around. All on screen.

Result.

Not asthmatic. Computer says my lungs are only working at 50% capacity,
due to my smoking up to 1977 !! Covid probably made it worse.

I'm getting an inhaler that 'will be life changing!'

Wheeee!!

I blame the London Smogs in my youth and the fact that both parents smoked
of course. However everyone is different. I think if somebody could come up
with a pill to make time seem as long as it used to when we were kids, all
except when we go to dentists that is and a few other places. Maybe also one
that does not let you drop off to sleep when listening to a TV program and
thus missing the important bits.

Did you ask for more details on that "life changing" comment?

There are lots of ways to change a life.

P.S. That test sounds like more fun that such things used to be.

"Life Changing" is what they said about the injuries to that poor woman
in Clapham. The nurse probably meant something more positive than that.

I've read all the blurb that came with the inhaler. Apparently it jbexs
on the lung-lining and makes it more useful, and relaxes airways so
they're less restrictive..... it sez 'ere.

SWMBO has COPD from severe asthma and has been previously prescribed
this. She is now on Symbicort. I certainly know about it if she forgets
to take morning and evening (its effects last about 12 hours). It can be
'transforming'.

Remember to rinse out your mouth (with water not the water of life) when
you have taken it, to prevent oral fungal infections.

Right. I tried that for a couple of months and couldn't get on with it.

I didn't like it being a dry powder dispenser twice a day and having to
gargle and mouthwash after each use. Then there was having to carry a
steroid user's alert card in case of sudden cessation which risks
Addison's(?). I reverted to Ultibro two-part inhaler capsules once
daily. I do hope you find that Trimbow works for you, good luck!

My wife has never been told to carry a card and has been using Symbicort
for many years. I think the logic is that this is a topical application
to the lining of the lungs and not a systemic application.

Not that she would ever stop using it, at least without being told to
stop by her GP/Consultant.

You mean this test thingy is based around silly games?. What is the point of
that. I do hope nobody wasted a whole lot of time on the graphics, a simple
rising tone would have done the trick, I'd say. I'm surprised the Police
don't have a breathalyser app for their phones with silly graphics on it as
well.

The interface is designed to amuse and attract the attention of the
blower, and is aimed mainly at the younger end of the age range of
expected users. They use the same piece of equipment for childhood
asthma tests as for adults.

The coding for the user interface is the kind of thing you could give to
any computer studies student and get back within a few days. A varying
tone would be handy for blind users, and is likely to be an option,
while the graphic interface is handy for deaf users. There will probably
be a connection to a PC for the operator and a network connection from
there to allow the data to be shared with other NHS staff.

The police breathalyser is a portable device with one purpose, so needs
to conserve power and be small enough to fit in a pocket. All it needs
is a couple of different beeps to tell everyone whether it's happy or
not, and the ability to display and store a single four digit number.

Hmm they might save on production cost and increase battery life by
making it woadfang interfaked and putting the memory and display on the
dibble's phone complete with amusing graphics.

The readings also have to be traceable beyond reasonable doubt when it
comes to court. Any transfer across a network can lead to a decent legal
bod getting the case thrown out. Having the device or its recording
device in court with the readings still on board is acceptable. Any
complication will make the accused's legal team very happy.

For similar reasons, they insist on having the original media available
with a traceable chain of possession from camera to courtroom when a
case involving CCTV evidence comes to court. Habits have changed, but
older CCTV systems used to record direct to DVD, and rewritable discs
were verboten.
