A man has been taken to hospital after he was hit by a police van while cycling along a main road in Darwen.

Paramedics and police were called to the A666 Bolton Road, close to the Texaco petrol station, at 8.22am today (July 30). The male cyclist suffered minor injuries and was taken to A&E.

Lancashire Constabulary told LancsLive that a road closure was put in place while investigation work was carried out. Several police vehicles were parked up in the petrol station following the incident.

A spokesman for the force said: "At 8.22am today (July 30) a police vehicle was involved with a collision with a cyclist on Bolton Road, Darwen. The male cyclist suffered minor injuries. He was taken to hospital as a precaution.

"A road closure was put in place while investigation work was carried out. It has since fully re-opened. Anyone with information can call 101, quoting log 431 of July 30, 2023."
