A cyclist is in hospital with fractures after being involved in a head-on crash with a car in Blackburn.

Another man, believed to be the driver of the car involved, from Blackburn, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care, and driving with excess drugs.

The incident happened at around 7.40pm on Thursday, August 31, in Shear Brow,at the Four Lane Ends junction with Pleckgate Road, Revidge Road and Lammack Road, close the The Fig & The Olive restaurant.

In CCTV video of the collision seen by the Lancashire Telegraph, a silver Seat waiting at a set of traffic lights pulls out into the wrong side of the road to go past a car in front which is waiting at the lights.

As it does so, it crashes head-on with a cyclist coming from the other direction, who is after smashing into the windscreen of the Seat is flung off his bike and into the air.

He is then seen lying motionless on the floor, before rolling over while other drivers come to his aid.

The lights for traffic coming in the direction the cyclist was travelling were at green.

It is currently unclear the severity of the cyclist's injuries.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "We were called by the ambulance service shortly before 8pm to reports of a collision between a pedal cycle and a car on Shear Brow, Blackburn.

"The cyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital with fractures.

"A 23-year-old man from Blackburn was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by driving without due care and driving - excess drugs. He is in custody."

North West Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
