Can I have advice please on the best way to take cuttings from Hortensia. In the past they have taken easily but the last lot I tried failed completely? Help

Hortensia, aka Hydrangea. Plenty of tips here
https://tinyurl.com/4zzn6yxa

My own thinking (and it's been a while since I took hydrangea
cuttings) would be semi-ripe shoots of this year's growth, preferably
with a heel, without a flower bud, stripped of most of their leaves,
possibly even the remaining leaves cut in half across the leaf to
reduce transpiration, dipped in a hormone rooting compound, and
planted into really gritty compost, in bright light but not direct
sunlight, and keep them damp but not overly wet. Perhaps a little
bottom heat in a propagator, if you have one.

But that's the way I do most shrub cuttings. I have sufficient success
for my needs.

Gardening in West Cornwall, very mild, sheltered
from the West, but open to the North and East.
