A LEARNER driver has appeared in court after being caught driving on the motorway.

Charges of driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and learner driver driving a vehicle while on motorway were lodged against Peter Hannan..

The 57-year-old, of Latchford, was caught out in Lancashire, with his case heard before Preston Magistrates’ Court.

The hearing heard how the defendant committed the offences on February 14 in the Blackpool area.

Hannan was driving a Suzuki motorbike on the M55 otherwise than in accordance with a licence authorising you to drive a motor vehicle of that class.

Moreover, he was driving on a motorway when authorised to drive that vehicle only by virtue of being the holder of a provisional licence.

Learner drivers are prohibited from driving on motorways without obtaining a full driving licence.

As a result, Hannan, of Steers Close, was ordered to pay a total of £398.

This is broken down into a fine of £220, surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and court costs of £90.

In addition, his driving record has been endorsed with five penalty points
