A MAN has been arrested and charged after a reportedly stolen car crashed into several parked vehicles in Port Glasgow.

Emergency services rushed to Castlehill Avenue after receiving a report of the incident at around 8:20pm last night.

Police say the 29-year-old driver of the car made off following the smash but was traced a short time afterwards.

He was taken to hospital for treatment by ambulance and was later arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

Images circulating on social media following the collision showed a red Suzuki car having smashed through a garden fence and gone over a ledge before coming to rest in an almost vertical position.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.20pm on Sunday, 12 November, 2023, we were made aware of a crash involving a car and a number of parked vehicles on Castlehill Avenue, Port Glasgow.

"Emergency services attended.

"The 29-year-old driver of the car made off but was traced a short time later and taken to hospital for treatment.

"He was also arrested and charged in connection with the incident.

"A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called to assist emergency service partners at a road traffic collision involving one vehicle and three unoccupied vehicles on Castlehill Avenue, Port Glasgow, on Sunday, 12 November at 8.16pm.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene to assist in making the area safe.

“One casualty was in the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service.”
