A delivery driver has been warned by police after they were stopped with parcels piled high in the front of their vehicle. Part of the windscreen and the passenger front window was obstructed by packages.

West Midlands Police said a vehicle's windscreen, windows and both wing mirrors must be kept clear. It is urging drivers to remember that "visibility is key" when transporting goods or they could face fines of up to £2,500.

The Highway Code says: "Windscreens and windows must be kept clean and free from obstructions to vision." Both wing (sic) mirrors must also be visible..

The RAC says that drivers can be handed a £50 fixed penalty notice if they pack their cars too full or obstruct their view of the road. If the vehicle is packed in a dangerous condition drivers can be fined up to £2,500, get points on their licence or face a ban from driving.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, WMP Traffic posted today: "If you are transporting parcels make sure they are secured properly. You also need to ensure you have a clear view out of your windows and can see your wing mirrors. #VisibilityIsKey #RHPT."

All vehicles first used after August 1, 1978, must have at least two mirrors that offer an adequate view to the rear of the vehicle. That's in accordance with the Construction and Use Regulations set out in 1986.
