POLICE issued points and a costly fine to a driver who parked illegally on Wareham high street.

Officers from the town’s neighbourhood policing team were patrolling the high street on Thursday, December 14.

The force came across a vehicle parked on white zig-zag lines and put pedestrians at risk, according to officers in Wareham.

Officers hit the driver with a fixed penalty notice and a £100 fine.

A spokesperson for Purbeck Police said: “If you have any concerns regarding any community issues in your area, please contact Dorset Police on 101 non-emergency or if a crime is in progress or life is in danger, please call 999.”

The Highway Code says: “You must not park on a crossing or in the area covered by the zig-zag lines.

“You must not overtake the moving vehicle nearest the crossing or the vehicle nearest the crossing which has stopped to give way to pedestrians.”

Dorset Council as well as BCP Council can enforce fixed penalty notices for cars parked on white zig zag lines.
