A week-long operation by Humberside Police to help improve safety for motorists has seen nearly 40 cars taken off the road for not having the required insurance.

Operation Drive ran from November 20 until November 26. During this period, officers from the Roads Policing Unit seized 39 vehicles and issued a further 34 traffic offence reports.

Earlier this week, Humberside Police gave a fascinating insight into how the force tackles drink drivers in the lead-up to Christmas to further protect people using our roads as a part of #OpYuletide.

Sergeant Diane Kemp from the Roads Policing Unit said: “I am really pleased to see these results from the national campaign our officers took part in. A total of 39 uninsured vehicles have now been seized which will help to make our roads safer.

“The public are the ones who are forced to pay the price of uninsured drivers, with them costing the public an estimated £400 million pounds per year.

“The law is clear on uninsured drivers, and it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure they are driving with insurance, whether it is a company vehicle or their own. All motor vehicles which are being used on a public highway must meet the minimum insurance requirements.

“I hope the outcome of Op Drive Insured serves as a reminder to drivers that we continue to take offences like this seriously and we will seize vehicles where it is appropriate to do so.

“My advice to motorists is to check they are insured. You can check with your insurer, the vehicle owner, the gov.uk website or via the Motor Insurers Bureau website (www.mib.org.uk).”
