week later, they reply stating they have done some adjustments and all
should be fine. Hahahaha it's worse. now 40 down 3 up. Had enough.
Paying full price for 1/2 speeds. not much longer.

so, after the background, I have a question or two re NBN fibre to the
home. (planning on 250/25...)

1: I presume the fibre is run up the conduit from the pit in the
naturestrip, to a point somewhere on an external wall, and then from
there into the house, terminating on some sort of wall plate where a
modem/access point(?) is then plugged into?

2: Do I have any say as to where this wall plate is mounted in the
house? Is it at the closest point to the naturestrip, or can i request
it be installed 20 metres further, towards the rear of the house/my
study? Does it need to be within range of a powerpoint? (See next)

3: it's been said that to keep the internet running through a blackout,,
a UPS is required. No biggie, I have a couple here.. but the access
point needs to be near a powerpoint?

4: currently have issues with wireless networking; namely streaming uhd
video to my TV out at my bbq. I've found a wifi5 Ubiquiti wifi router
doesnt have the bandwidth to send a UHD video up the hall and through a
brick wall, and a WIFI 6 has the bandwidth, but not the range. (about 15
metres) A mesh system is obviously the answer. Has anyone had any
experience with Netgear's NF20Mesh gear? Whilst it's not wifi 6E, which
has apparently even shorter range, i'm getting sick of the fail. at one
stage I couldnt even get Kayo happening on the external TV with wifi6...

My suburb got FTTH early, we were lucky. They managed to run the fibre
through the existing Telstra PVC pipe. That ended up outside the
laundry, Murphy's Law. But the NBN subcontractor was happy to run it
nearly 10 metres around the corner of house to the lounge room. The NTD
only has 1.2 metre power cable, so had to install it near a power point.
I connect the desktops by ethernet, only use the wifi for mobile phones,
so they are not using up 4G quota while I am home.

I think they allow a 10 metre run, then you pay. but depends on the
contractor, and often they will run it to wherever you want

I had a bit of a discussion with them, and after 5 attempts, it's now at
106 down, 32 up. They havent told me the issue is resolved... yet. Happy
enough with that, but it's too late. My problem should have been fixed
in 24 hours, not 5 weeks. SO I'm bailing anyway.

It's now a toss up between Aussie Broadband and AGL. We have our gas,
elec and now solar with AGL, and for 240/25 they suggest $89.00 a month
for the first 12 months, and then goes to $109. Aussie is $109 for 6
months, and then goes to $129 And they have new pricing from mid
November which now makes the 1000/50 plan look nice :-) Maybe worth the
wait to see what AGL does,,,

terminating on a network distribution frame which is full of red-back

house,, total run from pit would be 25-30 metres. Happy to pay, this

I look at your pic with great interest... it seems the "battery backup"
is the box on the left with the digital display, the box on the right is
the fibre termination, and the yellow cat (5e?) runs from that to your
chosen router, or whatever your ISP supplied you?

Is the battery backup supplied free of charge? Do you know what
battery/s are inside it?

I had it run the entire length of the house as my study is at the back
of the house.

Cheers.. whilst more expensive, I've just signed with Aussie. Their
supplied modem/router (Netgear NF20 mesh) were rated #1, and their
customer service won me over. I like speaking to people I can
understand. I looked at exetel, (and contemplated asking you for a
referral # so you would score $60 in credit) and whilst their prices are
very good, their ratings arent. And AGL are even worse. And It was AGL
that sent me to Aussie. (and I have a great mate that works at Aussie).
Whilst dearer, their prices will drop by $10 a month in Mid November.
(Agl also offer a wifi mesh system at half price, but only say scant
details on what system it is...eero x3 $250...)

I'm currently paying $90 a month for shit speeds and even worse service
from Uniti. I wont be on this planet forever, so to go from shit 100/40
(in reality, 50/10 at times) with them, to 250/25 at Aussie for an xxtra
$20 a month.. well, I'm happy so far. lets see what happens. no lock in
contracts..

I have plenty of that currency. slabs/cash it all works. Fuck the govt.
It does say that the installer may negotiate with regards to
positioning... methinks he'll get a shock when he looks in the pit on
the naturestrip..... a long long time ago, 25 years ago, I came home to
find 4 Telstra vans out the front, and they had pulled every spare
twisted pair out of the street and back into our pit out front, and
mounted a 30 pair frame on the wall here... which is now full of
redbacks.. Probably all thanks to Stuart Marburg from Netspace. :-)

fuck it, i've gone with the netgear stuff. The current TP-link ax5400
and it's wifi extender (unused) can go back in the box, and I'll start
from scratch. if kayo doesnt work properly out at the bbq after this,
I'll pull the 12g shotty out..

I'm surprised to hear that about exetel, never had any probs with them,
plus you get the speed boost whenever you want it
