POLICE patrols will carry on outside a road linking busy schools “for the foreseeable”.

Restrictions have been in place on Haddington’s Victoria Road and Neilson Park Road for a number of years to allow children to travel to and from school safely.

However, police officers have repeatedly received complaints about people flouting the restrictions, which are in place during term times.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland confirmed they would be on hand to dish out £50 fines and urged people to park elsewhere.

They said: “Due to ongoing complaints regarding vehicles driving down Victoria Road and Neilson Park Road during prohibited times (when the lights on the signs flash – usually during school drop-off and pick-up times), local officers have been carrying out proactive patrols and issuing fixed penalty tickets with a fine of £50 – these will continue for the foreseeable.

“These streets are busy with schoolchildren at these times, and the restrictions are in place for a reason.

“There are plenty of other places to safely park your vehicle nearby.”

Signs are in place on Victoria Road and Neilson Park Road highlighting the restrictions.

The police spokesperson urged anyone with similar concerns to get in contact.
