Seven drink drivers have been named as one is jailed and the rest banned after being caught by police. Warwickshire Police has continued its campaign of revealing the identities of those prosecuted for drink driving.

Jevgenijus Zulkarnevas from Lower Hillmorton Road was sent to prison for four months and banned from driving for 52 months after appearing before Leamington Magistrates Court on February 9 . He was charged with drink driving whilst four times over the legal limit. He was also ordered to pay a £154 Victim Surcharge.

He was arrested early evening on Friday, January 5, when police responded to a collision on Lower Hillmorton Road, Rugby and he was identified as the driver. Officers said he 'smelt of alcohol' and a roadside breath test revealed he had consumed so much alcohol that the proportion of it in his breath was 143 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

While he was jailed, six other drivers were sentenced for drink driving at the court on the same day. All of them were stripped of their licences.

Ranjit Lehal, aged 53 from Thorncliffe Way, Nuneaton was disqualified from driving for 44 months and sentenced to a Community Order with an Unpaid Work Requirement to carry out 100 hours of supervised unpaid work within the next 12 months. She was also ordered to pay £135 costs and £114 Victim Surcharge.

She was arrested at 7.26pm on December 18 after she collided with a lamppost and a stationary vehicle on Limes Coppice, Nuneaton. Officers arrived and she was asked to provide a breath test which she failed. She was later charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis.

Thomas Scorer, aged 37 from Seven Foot Lane, Nuneaton was disqualified from driving for 27 months and given a Community Order with an unpaid work Requirement to carry out 200 hours of supervised unpaid work within the next 12 months after appearing in court charged with drink driving. He was also ordered to pay £135 costs and £114 victim surcharge.

He was arrested at 9.35pm on December 22 in Wycliffe Way, Nuneaton after he was spotted leaving a fast food place and officers pulled him over. He admitted to drinking and tests revealed he had 112 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, over three times the legal limit.

Henry Richard Vyskocil , aged 23 from The Long Shoot, Nuneaton was disqualified from driving for 15 months, fined £120 and ordered to pay £135 costs and £48 Victim Surcharge.

He was arrested in the early hours of Christmas Eve, when officers stopped a car in London Road, Coventry after seeing the driver on his mobile phone. Officers smelt intoxicating liquor and he failed a roadside breath test. He was arrested and later charged with drink driving.

Simon Hodson, aged 60 from Abbey Street, Rugby was sentenced to a 40 month driving ban, fined £370, and ordered to pay £135 costs and £148 Victim Surcharge.

He was arrested at 11.07pm on December 22 on suspicion of driving whilst in charge unfit through drink/drugs in Abbey Street after a member of the public called police after seeing a vehicle collide with street furniture. He drove off and police tracked him to his home address and he was arrested and charged with drink driving.

Jagwant Sangha, aged 38 from Leamington Road, Coventry was sentenced to a Community Order requiring him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid supervised work within the next 12 months.

He was arrested at 11.38pm on December 23 in Beverley Road, Leamington on suspicion of drink driving after he drove his vehicle onto the pavement witnessed by members of the public. Upon arrival he admitted to officers that the vehicle was his and that he’d been drinking alcohol. He was arrested and later charged with drink driving.

He was also banned from driving for 25 months and ordered to pay £135 costs and £114 Victim Surcharge.

Joshua Griffiths, aged 26 from Orchard Street was arrested at his home after he hit several cars, including trapping a disabled woman and her husband in one, at the junction of Attleborough Road and Park Avenue just before Christmas last year.

Following the incident on December 22 charged with drink driving, Possession of a Class B controlled drug, Possession of an offensive weapon, driving without insurance and failing to stop after a road collision. He was sentenced to a Community Order requiring him to complete 200 hours of unpaid supervised work within the next 12 months.

All the drivers pleaded guilty and this was taken into consideration by the court when imposing the sentences, Warwickshire Police said.

Speaking after the sentences Police Sergeant Simon Dalby said: "Together, these drivers have been banned from driving for a total of 19 years and ordered to complete 400 hours of supervised unpaid work. Fines, costs and victim surcharge total over £2000.

“These aren’t the only costs these convicted drivers face. They will also face significantly increased insurance costs and if they can’t get a lift from friends and family will have to pay for public transport and taxis for the foreseeable future. If they drive for work, their employer will see the conviction on their licence which could affect future job prospects and earnings.

"We hope this all adds up to these drivers realising that drinking and driving just isn’t worth it and the only options open to them are hanging up the car keys for good or making the decision to become responsible road users."
