A cyclist's death has sparked a murder investigation after he was involved in a crash in Reading.

Police are investigating after the cyclist, a man in his 30s, collided with a vehicle on Addington Road, at the junction of Cadugan Place.

A force spokesperson said it is believed the cyclist was then assaulted by someone from the car at about 23:50 GMT on Wednesday.

He later died of his injuries at Royal Berkshire Hospital.

A force spokesperson said the man's next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Det Ch Insp Stuart Brangwin is appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

He said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who has died at this tragic time.

“We are in the early stages of our investigation and are still trying to establish the full circumstances.

“While our investigation continues, you will see an increased number of officers in the area. If you are in the area and have any questions or concerns, please approach our officers.”
