Down at the bottom, there is a button for Information for Industry

Well why not try it !

I just did, and it doesn't help.

My guess, it's just the result of some Arqiva maintenance bulletin to
Freeview and the broadcasters, being regurgitated by some AI, and a load
of irrelevant info being spat out.

However, as is normal Usenet behaviour, let the speculation and
ridiculous overthinking commence .................

Because it was Bill, not me, who wanted to know! Only trying to help.
My transmitter is not listed, so my interest stopped there.

Now I know why I pick up 4 different main transmitters, Waltham is not
on the list thankfully! (the other 3 are on the list) :-D

Speculation :)

Possibly if so many transmitters are listed it's not individual
transmitters that are being worked on but a problem with the actual
source of the broadcast data.

I wonder if they are making changes to the fibre network that feeds some
of these transmitters?

But in East Anglia, the Main Tacolneston transmitter is not listed,
whereas Sudbury and Sandy Heath are.

Now that is interesting Bill as we use EM and have had low
signal/pixelation issues for a month or so, even on the main channels.
At the end of last week the local TV (ch7) which is normally strong here
in Harrogate started breaking up badly and even dropped out for periods.

My main external aerial suddenly died a couple of months ago so I went
in the loft and connected a tri-boom multibeam and restored everything -
its been perfect ever since until last week. I went in the loft and
found that my guessed direction was about 15 deg out so I moved it and
all came back, but since then it has decayed again.

I was just wondering if the problem was a saturated roof due to all this
rain we have had?

I notice the spare mast at EM has been or is being taken down.

Adding to that having had a coffee break I have noticed on thing. The
transmitters section has two comments - the one about pixelation and the
one about screens going blank.

From what I know of them, the pixelation comment seems to apply
entirely to main stations and relays that are in effect secondary main
stations which means they will be fed by fibre or microwave, whereas
those that talk of the screen going blank is an off-air repeater.

In my old patch, Emley is a main as is Olivers Mount (Scarborough,) and
'secondary mains' are Chesterfield, and Idle Hill (Bradford overlooking
Shipley.) Wharfedale (Otley), Cop Hill (Slaithwaite) are both off-air
relays. Idle is fibre fed as main and a microwave link as the back-up
due to planning restrictions.

I wonder .........

I noted that a few day ago that the roof on the back of my property has
turned a shade of green. A few months back it was grey. On further
investigation it is a thin layer of moss or algae growing over the
complete surface. In the decades I've owned this house I've never seen
the roof with so much green stuff on it. Around 6 years ago I sprayed it
with Benzalkonium Chloride (diluted to perhaps 5%) to kill off little
clumps of moss that were starting to grow in the cracks between the
tiles. It has remained moss free until this green carpet started to grow.

The roof to the front of the house shows no greenery.

My loft mounted aerial points through the roof at the front of the
property but I too wonder if a layer of moss/algae covering a roof would
hold enough moisture to greatly attenuate a signal.

So you have trees not too far away? We are in the same boat.

The answer is to get some copper or zinc tape and have it fitted along
the roof ridge so that it is held in place by the bottom edge of the
ridge tiles and associated mortar. The tape is sacrificial but the rain
landing on it and washing down the roof will kill the algae and keep the
roof clean for a few years.

I've not been on my garage flat roof for a couple of years, I had to
give it a swill-down with bleach because the EPDM had got quite slimy
with green stuff. Also my pitched tile roof never used to get as much
moss as it does recently .. bring back coal-fired power stations.
