Does anybody here remember receiving any co-op coins when shopping at
the co-op years ago ? (and I think I mean at least 50 years ago)

There plenty of pictures of these thing online, and I remember having
them, but I dont know if it was part of the dividend scheme or part of
the change.

I can't remember how the systemm worked, but I do remember having to
quote the dividend number - so why did we need coins as well ?

I remember plastic co-op tokens being used to pay for our milk delivery
(remember that!), but I am not sure how we got them. This must have been
about 65 years ago.
These tokens were just left with the empty bottles at the front door,
and we lived in a terraced house which opened directly on to the street.
I don't think anyone would have enough trust in others to do that these
days.

Interesting - thats the first I have heard of plastic tokens

I am talking about metal coins which had a Sterling face value - usually
a few pence.

Before the introduction of the 50p piece they were a bit of a novelty as
some of them were polygons, and some of them had a hole in them.

I imagine there were a load of regional variations as there were loads
of regional co-ops

I was in Newcastle Upon Tyne then.
I may not be remembering everything properly of course!
As far as I can remember the tokens were just to pay the Co-op milkman.

In Edinburgh there were tokens to pay for bus & tram fares. When I did a
Christmas postie job in 1958, we were given some to get to our delivery
area.

Our local Co-op although quite large, closed around 10 years ag (so much
for "We're here for you") so I haven't shopped in a Co-op since then. So
sorry! can't help.

I've never ever come across a sideways scrolling website before - is
there a valid reason for that?
