I have the feeling that the weather forecasters for my local area (south
east - I think the same studio covers London sometimes) appear to be
leaning slightly - upper part of them (their head) nearer left edge of
picture than lower part.

It occurred to me that it might not be that noticeable in general, since
the weather maps, viewer pictures, etc. are inserted electronically (is
it still called green screen?), so will be correctly aligned with the
video frame anyway - it's only the presenter that isn't. I presume if
the camera/mount/whatever is significantly askew (has been knocked or
something), someone would notice, but if the sensor inside the camera is
rotated slightly, it might not be noticed for some time.

I've had this feeling for some weeks, but it's hard to tell. Lizzie just
now was wearing a garment with a zip at the front, and that definitely
didn't look vertical, but of course that could be how she wears it. The
effect - if I'm right - is only a few degrees out.

(Lizzie is always very smart and trim.) I have noticed the effect when
other forecasters are giving the forecast.

Not over this, no. In general, contacting the BBC about anything
technical (actually, about anything, but definitely technical) isn't
easy (probably applies to other broadcasters too).

Plus, on this one, I'm not _convinced_ I'm right: once I suspected it, I
kept seeing it, but am not sure whether I'm imagining it or not, so
thought I'd mention it here, to see if others felt the same. It's only a
few degrees off the vertical, if it _is_ the case at all: most
noticeable with a slim presenter.

I have an old chum who worked on that show for years (in Liverpool and
Londonistan) - they didn't.

A 10 minute phone call to parts foreign, confirms that the notorious kiddy
fiddler went in once, and that was when he was ankle grabbed by an Royal
Navy diver. It cost the tax-payer a new radio mic kit and a Wood and
Douglas TB receiver.

Now that's a quaint concept! I don't think I've come across anyone like
what the word "dealer" in that context implies, for several decades!

I see nobody has offered a sensible possible explanation. Please
try this experiment.

Remove your spectacles if you wear them. It doesn't matter
that your vision may now be blurred it's just that spectacles
introduce distortion you may not be aware of.

Stand close to a door frame and look directly at it at head
height. Move your head from side to side keeping your eyes still
within your head. The door frame is vertical whether it's to the
left, right or centre of your vision.

Now look down at say 45 degrees and move your head from side to
side. What do you see? Does the door frame stay vertical? No.
When the door frame is on the left hand side of you vision it
leans in the way you have described Lizzie.

Therefore Lizzie's leaningness can be explained by the camera
position. Wide angle lenses make the effect more noticeable than
more standard lenses.

I have been looking carefully, and am now not convinced that the effect
is present - or, someone has fixed it. It did also occur to me that it
might be a lens effect, though if that is the explanation a less than
optimum choice of lens is involved.
