I use Thunderbird and I create a rule delete everything with
googlegroups.com in the Message-ID header.

It's unfortunate, but I don't see a way to create a global filter in
Thunderbird. Until now I have to create the same filter for every newsgroup.

It's a bit late for that now, isn't it?

The posts are still there. And your newsreader will pull down
the list of them, at least as far back as it pulls. (Tin defaults
to some limited number of posts. I flip it to all in spite of the
time hit, because I inevitably end up wanting to see older stuff
in threads or search back posts or something.)
