No, Solaris even runs on new x64 hardware - I tried it out last week in
VirtualBox.

You misunderstood my comment, it was about the use of SVM/ODS/SDS, not
Solaris.

I still work with Solaris (all versions), usually SPARC, and only come
across SVM on Sol 8 or 9 instances (or very early S10), and these are
usually servers that are being migrated to newer tin (LDoms/zones),
whenever possible I will get the client to shift to ZFS.

I also know John, and the government depts he often works at, and am
surprised that there is still stuff to be modernised.
