Can you recommend a good phone location tracker app that is free or only
charges once, at time of purchase? I don’t like recurring payment schemes.

I’m not sure it will support my use-cases though.
I am old and live alone, away from my larger family. They want to know my
location, in case I become incapacitated. They all have Android phones, not
iPhones like myself. So they’ll have to have some Android app on their
phones that can locate an iPhone user. Needless to say that I would also
want to know their location occasionally.

It was just an additional idea. Does such location tracker software
exist, that allows Android-users to track an iPhone?

There is a plan/agreement between Apple and Google to share access to the
Find My network. If/when that happens is a separate question...

If you trust your family you can give them your Apple ID and password which
they can use via the Apple website to track your phone.

Just share from the Find My app in the iPhone with the duration set to
"Share indefinitely".

Family and friends can have their own Apple IDs, and you can then share
various things via "family" sharing options ... but for Android users,
they would have to log into the Apple website to use any features such
as Find My.

For you requirements, you would probably better off with a third-party
app, but I don't know which, if any, is the best to use. Personally I
would never trust a third-party free app for tracking - you'll never
know where they are selling your data to make their money!

It can be done via Google Maps, but only for 24 hour time frames, so
you would have to reset it each day.

An alternative would be for them to create their own apple IDs online -
there's no need to get an apple device - and then create a family where you
can share your location with.

No need at all. As I posted elsewhere, the person sharing their
position with another person can set it to share with that person
indefinitely in Find My on their iPhone.

On Android there are many apps for sharing exact location via the GPS
coordinates, where if that same capability is on iOS, then at least sharing
of a location can be done on an on-demand basis with other family members.

An example of an app I use all the time to share my location is
GPS to SMS location sharing by Tralchonok Labs

It's open source software so I looked to see if it was ever ported to iOS.

Unfortunately, it's only ported to Android so it will work only one way.

But it's such useful functionality that a similar app should exist for iOS
