Hello!

Some spammers (especially those who want to scam people) want answers
from the recipient.
Do they answer back and check the From address?

If not, has anybody here tried to send messages with a spam trap in
From?

kind regards
Marco

Some do, but many include a tracking url in the message. When your browser
displays the 1-pixel-sized image, they know that you have read the message
and that your email address is good. When you click on the bait url, they
then have contact with you.

Oh yes, many people.

They do. But have a closer look. Nigerian scammers alternate between
having one or more addresses scattered all over the mail. First check the
mail body, then the Reply-To:. If these don't exist, the From: is valid.

Decades ago I was teasing Nigerian scammers in email conversations for a
while. Once they realized they exploded. I collected the replies in a
"trophy" room. Might have that online somewhere but forgot where. Cannot
find any local copies though.

I might not read usenet for a coupe of months starting today. If you want
a reply from me, please email. I'll check about all 48 to 72 hours.
