Hi all,

I'm hoping for some help in resolving a sporadic issue with
charset rendering in slrn.

I'm using slrn 1.0.3 on a BSD shell at panix.com (via PuTTY on a
Windows laptop), and the relevant bits of my .slrnrc file are
here...

% charset display iso-8859-1
charset display utf-8

% set fallback_charset "utf-8"
set fallback_charset "iso-8859-1"

% set editor_command "nano -b -r 66"
set editor_command "pico -z -t -r66 -Q \"> \" %s"
charset editor "utf-8"

What is most noticeably causing problems is a quote character (")
that leads the subject header from some posters. When I view it
in the article window, all is fine. When I open the thread, the
character rendering changes in the article list (but the article
view is fine), and when I start a reply, the character rendering
is also wonky.

Any ideas for me? Details follow to illustrate the issue.

Ted

When I open the group I see this...

When I select the first thread, I see this...

I think this has been resolved. An admin at my ISP noted that the
installed slrn was in fact 1.0.3a, it just didn't idenytify itself
with the trailing "a."

More to the point, he also noticed that it was an old 32-bit
build. He made a new build at 64 bits and using newer libraries
(especially slang). The character rendering seems to be good now.
