Unlike the fork MPC-BE, MPC-HC doesn't display video thumbnails of your
movie as you hover your cursor over the playback progress bar.

Not correct anymore. I'm using MPC-HC version 2.1.3 (0cad76c96) and it
does this now:

Show preview on seek bar

I forget which version it was when they finally implemented this
feature, but it was fairly recently.

MPC-HC 2.2.1x64-bit portable does not display mp4 thumbnails when I
hover the cursor over the seek bar. Nor did I find a setting allowing me
to do so.

Interesting. I got my copy (and the version I mentioned) bundled with
the K-Lite Codec Pack:

I also have MPC-HC 2.2.1 Portable.
The setting is at View\Options\Player\User Interface in the "Seekbar" section.
"Hover" should be enabled and "Hover type" should be Video Preview.

That worked! Thank you. Odd that the hover preview is enabled by default
in MPC-BE.
