Has anyone done this and what are the advantages / disadvantages of a
complete uninstall of Edge.
I have Firefox on all three of my windows 11 computers and never use
Edge at all.

Ya go for it and let us know how it went. If you are not using something
then there is no point in having it on your machine. Edge has AI
but you are not interested in it so just remove it. Google is still
available in Firefox - and it is catching up with Chrome and Edge. I use Edge so never removed it. Removing can break things in Windows.

I asked M$ support about that a years or so
ago. They said it would break too many things
in their OS.

True of not, I do not know. But yo can beleive
they did it on purpose

After install Firefox and Brave Browser, I just
remove Edge's icons from the desktop and the task
manager. If somethings ever pops up that needs
Edge, it can be found in the obnoxious tiles.
Edge does not hurt anything just sitting
there unused.
I recommend Firefox (Gecko) and Brave Browser
(Blink). Brave has automatic ad blocking,
does not spy (like Edge and Chrome), and have
a private windows with TOR for private searches
that are none of anyone else's business.
Brave is considered "grandparent safe".
I tell my customers if one browser does not
work, try the other.
I have nine browsers on my machine to cover
what my customers use. Edge would be in
my virtual machines, but I have never had anyone
call on Edge. No one seems to like it.

Settings : Apps : Installed Apps

Microsoft Edge <=== user browses directly
Microsoft Edge Update
Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime <=== some crappy App displays web content (HTML/js program runtime?)

Presumably, the last item is tied to system function.
Well, it's tied to Apps somehow.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2/

From Wiki:

"Microsoft Edge WebView2 is a framework that allows
developers of Windows apps to implement a desktop app
using web technologies, replacing the older WebView EdgeHTML based
or WebBrowser MSHTML based controls."

https://superuser.com/questions/1743585/how-to-uninstall-microsoft-edge-webview2

https://windowsreport.com/microsoft-edge-webview2-runtime/

cd C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\EdgeWebView\Application\1*\Installer

Next, type or paste the following command to silent uninstall it and press Enter:

.\setup.exe --uninstall --msedgewebview --system-level --verbose-logging --force-uninstall

This is similar to the way you remove Chrome. There is usually a setup.exe
and a large ZIP file, for uninstallation later.

The problem with this sort of fine information, is there are other
tricks Microsoft uses for this stuff, and such a simple naive invocation
as the example above -- it would certainly work for Chrome, but Microsoft
is unlike to part with its Edge installation without a fight. I tried
this once, and even with the Inbox bit set to zero in the database,
I still could not remove it.

You would have to:

1) remove the Update application.
2) check that there is nothing in Autoruns, to bring MSEdge back
(nothing in GPEDIT and/or the Registry).
3) Stop all Windows Updates
4) Stop all Windows Version upgrades (which are likely to reinstall MSEdge).

And so on. The chances of removing it permanently, are slim to none.

With Google Chrome, removal would not be nearly as traumatic.
However, there are two Google Update processes that are still
there, that you may have to deal with as well. Officially, they were
supposed to auto-remove, when the last Google product (say, Google Earth)
was removed from your PC, but of course they do no such thing and just
sit there.

Two:

1. It's not there if you need it because you run into a website that
doesn't work with FireFox.

2. You have the potential of running into a problem with a later
update to Windows. In my opinion, it's never wise to uninstall
something that's built into Windows.

I also greatly prefer Firefox, and never use Edge except when a site
doesn't work with Firefox. That doesn't happen often, but every now
and then...

Thank you all for your suggestions.
I will for the time being, just remove the Edge browser shortcuts and
leave it at that. I do not want to break win 11 which is now working well.

That's wise. As far as I'm concerned, you're doing the right thing,
but you could even leave a shortcut to it and just not use it unless
you need to.

I did the same, but I also had it blocked with my firewall so it
can't send info back home.
