I have Windows11 on a NUC, and a wide screen AOC Q32V3S via a HDMI
cable.

I leave the computer on overnight, with a screen sleep engaging after
45 minutes.

Next morning I find the screen is black and will not respond. I have
to reboot to fix things.

This does not happen every night.

What can be causing this. All updates are current.

Why not just switch off at night and on again when needed the next
day?

First thing, switch the monitor off and on, that might make it
respond.

Do you have any other device? Another computer, tablet, smartphone?

If so, install TeamViewer 'master' on that second device and
TeamViewer 'slave' on the problem system. When the monitor is black
again, use TeamViewer on the second device to connect to the problem
system to see if that's still alive and hence it's 'only' a display
problem.

Or just put it to sleep. A computer comes out of sleep almost instantly.

Thanks to all. It looks like the problem was a faulty thumb drive.
The problem has disappeared.
