Hi all,

A friend of mine has a laptop with W11 Home. Since the last update
(22H2) he has a problem. When opening the File Explorer, there is no
more the Quick Access entry. It's lost.

I searched on the internet and found that there should be an entry in
the registry. It's in
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
and the name is LaunchTo REG-DW with a hex value of 2.
That's necessary to show Quick Access in the File Explorer.
It wasn't there and I created it and restarted the laptop. But
unfortunaly still no Quick Access in the File Explorer.
Is there anyone who has an idea how to solve this problem?
Many thanks in advance.

With regards,
Fokke Nauta

Apparently with 22H2, Microsoft have removed "Quick Access" from File
Explorer, and replaced it with "Home"

I think Quick Access items are placed in the left pane. The left pane is
called Navigation pane.

To get the left pane back, in my Windows 11, I click on "View" (near the
three dots at the top) and choose "Show" and check "Navigation pane".

Yes, all my Quick-entry links have disappeared, and I'm unable to
attach new ones.

Now I'm reduced to placing them all again on the Desktop!

Why were we not warned?

Well, on our laptops (W11 Pro) we had the 22H2 update as well. Indeed,
there is Home in the File Explorer, but still Quick Access. It's still
there.

This one is Win11 Home edition and it only has home folder now, will
check the Win11 Pro edition machine later ...

I've got 22H2 -- build 22621.2283 -- and my Quick
Access items are still in File Explorre, just without
the Quick Access heading. If I right-click on one,
"Unpin from Quick Access" is still an option, and when
I right-click on a regular folder, "Pin to Quick
Access" is still an option.

Unfortunately, they added a Home heading, with OneDrive
under it, and I see no way in the GUI to get rid of
that unwanted section. I'm sure I can find the
appropriate Registry setting in a web search. (I don't
use OneDrive, but I guess that's the thing Microsoft is
currently pushing.)

My Home heading has a Gallery heading under it - odd. If I click the
Home heading it opens a second list of the Quick Access directories
spaced out in the right hand pane. It says it will list favourite files
there too if I mark them. If you find a way of getting rid of the daft
Home heading, Stan, let us know.

https://windowsreport.com/remove-home-from-file-explorer-windows-11/

The article is dated 2023-10-04, so there's a good chance it's still
current.

I haven't tried it yet, as I'm currently working on my Windows 10
machine.

I've had time to delve into this, but I decided not to
proceed because of this sentence:

"Creating the HubMode DWORD and deleting the registry
file related to the HomeGroup feature will also remove
the Quick Access feature from File Explorer in Windows
11."

I did at least delete the silly OneDrive icon from that
section, by deleting this Registry key:

[HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-

Been away for a few days ... just fired-up the Win11 Pro laptop and just
like the Win11 Home one, it has lost the Quick Access folder and gained
Home and Gallery folders.

I cannot get anything INTO the Home folder. I try "add to quick
access" but nothing happens.

Is there a switch in the Settings?

I don't use the Cloud.

Thanks.
On our laptops with W11 Pro we have the home folder but with the Quick
Access entry.

On our laptops (W11 Pro) the Quick Access entry is shown as soon as we
open the File Explorer.

Maybe 23H2 will fix it? I'm still trying to figure out how the update
last month was still called 22H2

I am using W11 Pro also. The Quick Access entries are listed in the
Navigation Pane. If I close the Navigation Pane, the left vertical panel
will disappear and I will have a lot more room in the File Explorer. I
would close the Navigation Pane if I want to open two File Explorer
windows at the same to drag-and-drop files between the two windows.

Here I repeat:

"To get the left pane back, in my Windows 11, I click on "View" (near
the three dots at the top) and choose "Show" and check "Navigation pane"."

The current version of W11 22H2 is 22621.
The current version of W11 23H2 released as a Preview to the Windows
Insiders Program for Business participants(to validate on devices in
their organizations is 22631.

i.e. While 23H2 will be released in a given month, 22H2 will continue to
be updated on a monthly basis
22H2 will retain it's version number until end of service.
23H2 will have a different version number when released.
