I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max, fully up to date.

Is there a way of setting it so that I don't receive calls between certain
hours (specifically, in the middle of the night)?

Or at least of silencing the ringtone, though this would be less useful.

I would have expected this but if it is there, I can't find the setting.

But I would like to have the ability to originate a call if I so wished.

John.

Thank you. I think I have found what I want in"Do not disturb".

Did this not appear directly under Settings at one time?

John.

Yes, but Apple expanded the feature, so now Do Not Disturb is a subset
of the larger Focus feature.

I usually finger flip on my phone from the top just before work to access
it from Control Center but Do Not Disturb is my go to. I guess I could
automate it. I wake to my iPhone alarm every morning. I guess I could use
my iPad instead for that. I never use Do Not Disturb on the iPad. I should
learn more about Focus.

I'm not seeing a dilemma. Bring up Control Center, tap Focus, then tap
Do Not Disturb. Done deal.

What's revealing is the iKooks are so deathly afraid of the truth about iOS
that they claim anyone telling the truth about iOS is mentally ill.

On the topic of moving apps, these religious zealots _hate_ that iOS is
completely brain dead due to the walled garden - which is simply the truth.
(I gave them a list of Android's capabilities)

They have no defense to the truth other than ad hominem childish insults.

Actually the OS _can_ stop the app from consuming excessive resources by
shutting it down. There have been complaints by developers of this
happening when the app has a legitimate need for those resources.

Wrong. It has to be registered to your Apple ID (or family plan).
That's NOT the same thing as what Android does. Not even close.

Android _automatically_ saves the APK for _every_ app ever installed.
And that APK can be used on _any_ Android phone on the planet.

Even the iMazing clusterfuck can't come close to doing that, Steve.

The reason Arlen (Wally) is mentioning military grade software is
because he desperately wants to deflect from the original point which is
that Apple deploys complex system and app software to hundreds of
millions of heterogeneous devices regularly, where it is not uncommon
for bugs that affect numerous devices (albeit a relatively small number
of the total deployment base) to be found after release. Arlen and
other regular trolls in the Apple newsgroups repeatedly claim that the
fact that bugs exist in Apple software supposedly means "Apple never
tests their software" (yes, that's a direct quote), which is an
idiotic and baseless claim and completely ignores that Apple's
software teams, like many other large software teams, hold and manage
bug databases and go through traditional alpha and beta testing
phases, including public betas. They claim to know all about software
development, but turn around and claim bugs shouldn't exist. And this
says way more about them than Apple.

Thank you. I think I have found what I want in"Do not disturb".

Did this not appear directly under Settings at one time?

John.

What you hate, nospam, is that iOS is brain dead in terms of app transfer.

The facts are that Android...
a. Natively backs up the APK to the phone for _every_ app automatically.
b. Backs up the APK for every app _version_ automatically (off by default).
c. Re-installs free APKs to _any_ phone in the world (not just your ID!).
d. If you have sdslots, you can pop it out of phone 1 & put it in phone 2.
e. You can then re-install every app simply by tapping on the sdcard APK.
f. Everything goes in the EXACT folder and exact position as it was before.
g. You can list all apps & their URLs to an editable text file if desired.
h. You can mail that list to anyone and they can install the same apps.
i. Simply by tapping on the links because the output is a normal HTML file.
etc.

All of that is _impossible_ to do on iOS, even as Android easily does it.

Apple announces entry-level Apple Pencil with USB-C charging

The iPad accessory will cost $79 and comes with a sliding cap that reveals
the USB-C port. It also attaches magnetically to the side edge of an iPad -
even the 10th-generation model Apple released last year.

The device doesn't support pressure sensitivity, wireless pairing and
charging, or the double-tap feature that lets you switch between tools.
However, it still supports hover with M2 models of the iPad Pro.

The first Apple Pencil model used a Lightning connector that jutted out of
it to plug into your iPad's port for charging, while the second-gen model
charged wirelessly and isn't compatible with the 10th-generation iPad Apple
released last year, leaving owners of that iPad with not-great options.

The USB-C Apple Pencil is compatible with a range of iPads, including the
third to sixth generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, the first to fourth
generation 11-inch iPad Pro, the fourth and fifth generation iPad Air, the
10th gen iPad, and the sixth gen iPad Mini.

Yes, but Apple expanded the feature, so now Do Not Disturb is a subset
of the larger Focus feature.

I don't accept a model where an app that is potentially compromised
("infected") on one device be blindly copied to another.

Further, the use case you promote is (as you well know) a cherry picked
edge case that you run up the flagpole, but is in reality nothing most
people do on Android.

A real life case in point, my SO's son recently bought a new Android
phone and sat there _downloading_ new copies of his various apps from
Google Play and some other site. Then he sent his data over from his
old phone. He is not a computer whiz of any kind and represents the
more common smartphone user: just wants a smartphone that does x as
simply and reliably as possible.

I buy a new iPhone every 5 years (possibly 6 or more with the current
phone doing so well), so I really prefer a clean start in everything (as
I do with my computers whether at home or at work).

But you do you, which appears to be cherry picking all day long.

What is really amusing is that Apple started the Mac with the 32-bit
Motorola 68000 processor...

....then transitioned to the M68030...

....while maintaining backwards compatibility...

....then transition to the PowerPC architecture...

....while maintaining backwards compatibility...

....then the Intel x86 architecture...

....while maintaining backwards compatibility...

....and finally (currently) to the Apple Silicon architecture...

....while maintaining backwards compatibility.

Wrong. It is quite typical for bugs to cause excessive resource usage
which lowers performance, and fixing those bugs results in an increase
in performance as resources are then free to be used more efficiently.
Your ignorance is on full display.

Send/share/print is managed by iPadOS. It's pretty much the same process
regardless of the app. I don't think changing the app will help.

What's the problem your friend has?

I report some of his issues (but, I repeat, I don't have an iPhone or a
Mac to confirm)

He says he can't send/share part of a note, the app always sends the
whole stuff, in some cases the app sends as a picture even if the
source is a text, he can't comfortably manage the notes when is
connected to icloud.com with his pc (Windows), and so on.

He's 80 yo, please be patient ;)

That Note app. is very bare-bones. I use it only for writing text, which
I'll then copy and paste elsewhere.
I suggest MS Word.

There are other apps available in the App Store; lots, in fact. Just do
a Search for "note" and you'll find things like Goodnote, Notefree, and
a host more.

yes, in the meantime I made some tests with Android apps, I found that
OneNote from Microsoft works fine: I can type a note, or register a
vocal, or dictate using the microphone. Notes are almost immediately
synced with OneNote on the computer and here I can work on them,
adding, changing, deleting and, on exit, all the modifications are
synced back to the phone.

thanky you for your tips, my first try will be OneNote on the apple
devices and in case of failure I'll give a try to the a.m.

I can manage it. He needs to highlight the part of the note he wants to
share, select the "Share..." option in the pop-up menu (he'll likely need
to skip a few options before finding it) and choose where to save/share the
selection.

That's a different issue and I don't use icloud with windows so can't help
here.

Not sure how this is any different to Notes? That's exactly how I use Notes
on my ipad and Mac.

Your OP was about "sharing" not syncing. What exactly is your friend trying
to achieve?
