This concerns my Image Expert 2000; when I open up an image I use to be
able to click it again to make the image larger and right click to make
it smaller but now I've noticed that instead it has a hand icon and if I
want to make the image bigger or smaller I need to right click to zoom
in or out. I haven't download anything. So why has it changed and can I
get my old settings back?

Thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks,
Robert

Did you remove QuickTime recently ?

There may have been a QuickTime For Windows prerequisite for it.

I can't find any documentation at all for your program,
so this is a wild guess and that is all.

It looks like Corel has swept all the copies off the Internet.
Corel bought JASC and JASC made Image Expert for Dell.

I would guess, the hand means the program *thinks* the
picture you clicked, is open in a big window area. And
the hand is meant to allow you to move around the picture.

It sounds like perhaps the picture is not rendering
for some reason.

What the program thinks is going on, and what actually
happened, are two different things.

That's about right. because when I try and use the hand to
grab the picture and move it, it does nothing.

I never had this hand previously. As I said, if I wanted to make
the picture bigger I simply clicked it and to make it smaller I
right clicked it.

This is what I get if I right click in Image expert 2000

https://postimg.cc/CBtkFytw

This is what I get if I open a file in Image Expert 2000
and right click

You have to admit. I seem to have a knack for attracting the
weirdest off the wall issues that come from no where.

Have you recently installed any JASC or Corel software ?

I would check the preferences, and see if there is any option to
turn on or turn off the icon bar. Did it always have the File menu
as well as the row of icons ?

Either you changed something, or something got corrupted.

In the Control Panel "Programs and Features", you could
see if Image Expert has only a "remove" option, or has
"remove" and "repair" as options. Maybe a "repair" can fix it.
Bur generally in software, a "repair" does not remove the
options the user has set. And that's why a "repair" of the
application, seldom solves any problems.

I haven't installed any new software. The only time I do that is
if you OK it first.

I went into to programs and features and tried to repair it as
you suggested. It didn't work and the last image came up after
the repair.
So what do you think of me uninstalling it and re-installing it?
It seems the only option we have left.

You must have installed this (using the installer from the 8200)
at some time in the past.

I was a bit worried that the InstallShield from the year 2000
might be a bit cranky when run on Windows 7. That's the only
danger -- you might remove it and not be able to install it
again. While you can change the Compatibility setting using
the properties of the JASC .exe installer file, I would hope
that would not be necessary and the OS would be doing some of
that itself.

InstallShield seems to keep materials of its own making,
on your C: drive. From that point of view, files to
support the installation, should still be present on
your C: . These would not be JASC files as such, but
part of the InstallShield kit that JASC would have bought
from InstallShield.

I'm trying to not make a big mess here :-)

Would the Image Expert window have opened behind some
of your other windows ? I had that happen a day ago,
and I did not notice a program had done that, and then
I couldn't figure out "why the program would no longer run".
Well, it was running, but I couldn't see it because it
did a pop-behind.

I just can't imagine what dependencies a program that old
could possibly have. All it needs is a copy of the JPEG
library to view a JPEG file. This is not rocket science.
Only modern software insists on making things more
complicated, and this software is from around 1997-2000 or so.
This might even pre-date NTFS, so the software may not
be taking advantage of NTFS features, and it could be
assuming FAT32 storage (which is pretty simple stuff).

Would you have changed accounts, and are trying to view
pictures in the Pictures folder of some other account ?

You need your Administrator-capable account to be doing
Repairs or re-installs. And "install for all users", so
all the accounts can use it.

I have the original CD I kept with all the other CD
from the 8200 that's how I have Word and Excel on
the 8500. So I should be able to re-install it shouldn't
I?

I will try the repairs again logged on as Administrator

I'm not sure if Image exert opened up behind some
other windows. It may have occurred while I was
doing searches off the task bar.

I logged in as Administrator and did the repair but
it's still the same.

So since I have the original CD do you suggest I uninstall
and reinstall it? or should I risk it? Still I installed it on the
780. So it should work and after all that's how I installed it
on the 8500.

I uninstalled and reinstalled Image Expert 2000 on the 780
first to test it and make sure I could recover with the CD. I
then tried it on the 8500 and was able to re-install it OK but
the problem was still there.

Therefore it must be in my settings,.. so I went to Image > Tool
and saw Pan and Zoom with Pan selected so I changed it to Zoom
and that fixed it.

https://postimg.cc/Z9GmL35d

I don't know what I did to change it but I must have.

Many Thanks,
Robert

You can try it from the CD.

You have backups if things do not go well.

If the install is not successful, you can
do Properties on the executable doing the install
and set the "Compatibility" tab to Windows XP.
And retry.

But I really don't think that will be necessary.
Only if Image Expert adds entries to the right-click
Context Menu, might there be some interference.

(I'm busy tipping my laptop upright now... grrr.)
