I've been watching the SWTOR forums since the 7.0 release, and the
near-universal frustration and anger by the playerbase. Every time I
think I might go back to it, reading the bitching is enough to convince
me not to.

The best one is DarthEnrique's complaint about how LGBTWTFBBQ are so
put-upon and oppressed and everybody needs to care about him and stop
accusing him of being a pedo (oddly specific defensiveness). He's been
whining since forever and his posts are always good for a laugh. I'd
reply to his post with "Hey pedo, leave those kids alone" just for the
laughs but I'd have to pay Bioware to do it and nah.

the Troll-o-meter scale.

You start strong. For one thing, you actually are writing on topic for
once, which is rare enough among trolls these days to be noteworthy.
Most of them think just bursting into a room and shouting obscenities
is sufficient to claim the title of troll (it's not; people just
ignore you. That's not trolling; that's just noise). But you spent
your wad too quickly (something you have a problem with in real life
too, I suspect), going directly to the purposely controversial after
just a few sentences.

You lose more points for jumping into a newsgroup as a total newbie
and being vile from the start. It reveals you immediately. Worse, you
then do that with a second post; even if there was some doubt after
the first comment, your goal is evident with the next.

But worst of all? You did it in a newsgroup that gets almost no
traffic. If it is day after day after day of (nothing) (nothing)
(nothing) and then suddenly (vile imprecations) followed by more
(nothing) (nothing) (nothing)... well, everybody knows what you are
from the start.

Here's a hint: it's better to shim your way into a discussion group
over the course of a few days or weeks. Add a few inconsequential
comments - nothing too serious; the equivalent of 'me too' posts - and
maybe even introduce a new tame topics yourself. Perhaps set yourself
up already as being a somewhat - but not obnoxiously so - garrulous
person, so when you ultimately reveal your troll self, it's not such a
surprise. Remember, a truly good troll post is one that people aren't
sure is actually a troll - that way they engage with it - and the best
way to do that is to make them think you seriously want to discuss the
topic. Faking earnestness is key. But that requires effort and
forethought, and too few modern would-be trolls want to bother with
that sort of thing.

Try harder; I'm sure you can do better next time.
