A very minor problem and I don't care if it never gets fixed, but I
just wanted to mention it.

If I go to Settings/Home, under Windows Update it says "Last checked
xx minutes ago" (an incorrect xx).

If I then click on it, it gives me a different number of minutes,

Are others here experiencing the same thing? Any idea why it's
inconsistent?

Mine just said last checked today, 08:44
After I clicked "check" it found a defender update, and now says last
checked today 14:36

And on the "Home" screen it says 1 minute ago.

Look again.

Settings/Home - Windows Update icon(top right) indicates 'minutes'
Settings/Home/Windows Update - Last checked shows the time of day(hr/min)

I don't look at the time as much as the day. I just want to know it did it today.

I do notice when I do one of those huge updates, I'll see it at 2% and minimize it.
Then I go and play games or browse the net etc for 5 mins.
When I come back and maximize the program from the taskbar, it still says 2% but then ~10 seconds later it says 70%. And
you know darn well that it didn't do 68% in 10 seconds.

That's the only lag I've seen.

I pause my updates for a month out, so I cannot see some of the screens
you mention (won't show until I resume updates, and I'm not resuming
just to check this out). You sure you aren't confusing "just checked"
with "last updated"? Checking for updates is not necessarily the same
as installing updates.

The home and system pages both say 10 hours ago
the updates page says at 06:29
it is now 16:30, so the 10 hours is correct.

Well # of minutes is not the time of day.

Home and System options show 2 hours ago.
Windows Update shows 9:24 A.M.
=> it is now 11:26 A.M. (and the same time zone as you)
11:26 - 9:24 is 2 hours, 2 minutes.

Of course not. My point was simply that the number of minutes didn't
correspond to the time of time.

OK, it works correctly for you. Not for me.

Now would be a good time to post the numbers that you believe to be
incorrect. These are found on the following 3 screens.

Settings/Home
Settings/System
Settings/Windows Update

Do realize that an item that shows only hours(e.g 'updated hours ago'),
doesn't update hours based on minutes.
e.g right now is 10:55 AM your time, but it is hour 10 and zero hours ago.

Perhaps I was imagining things, but I'm reasonably sure that for a
moment, the 'Last checked:' number of hours on the Settings/Home screen
was outdated, saying "10 hours ago", while the Settings/System screen
correctly said "3 hours ago" (which matches the "Last checked: Today,
18:18" on the Settings/Windows Update screen (it's 21:51 now)).

When I returned to the Settings/Home screen, it correctly said "3
hours ago".

So perhaps Ken saw a similar *temporarily* incorrect number of hours?

Hi, Frank.
There is variation in those three locations
- The first two(Home and System) typically report in hours but not
universally - immediately after an automatic check(i.e. when not
seeking[Check for Updates on the 3rd Windows Update option]may show
minutes where all 3 locations show the same 'minutes'.

It's possible that one can see in incorrect number of hours/minutes which
is why I asked for the hours and or minutes on those screens be included
in a reply.

Fyi...two different algorithms in the code are used to report.
System and Home's Windows Update icon uses the same

It happened again! In sequence:

Settings/Home: Last checked: 32 minutes ago

Settings/System: Last checked: 2 hours ago

Back to:
Settings/Home: Last checked: 2 hours ago

So when I opened Settings, it (of course) showed Home and the 'Last
checked:' was *wrong*. Going to System and back to Home 'fixed' it.

It's strange that in the previous case, the error was a too long time
(10 hours instead of 3 hours), now it was a too short time (32 minutes
instead of 2 hours). (The 2 hours is correct, because System/Windows
Update says 'Last checked: Today 18:44' and it's 21:10 now.)

So while you say "System and Home's Windows Update icon uses the same
[algorithm]", the *result* is not the same, because the Home 'Last
checked:' period is sometimes wrong (at least on my system and probably
also on Ken's).

Setting/Home and Settings/Sytems report 11 hours ago
Windows Update shows last checked at 12:59 PM

It is currently 12:03 AM my time zone

For calculation sake:
12:59 PM is approximately 1 PM

1PM to 12:03 AM is 11 hours and 3 minutes

Seems to be consistently *not* syncing here! :-)

Home 2h -> System 1h -> Home 1h -> Windows Update 10:32 (clock 12:26,
so not yet >=2h).

So again Home was temporarily wrong.

I've decided not to worry about it! :-)

If I remember, next time I will just do Home and see if it changes or
do Home/exit('X')/Home and see if that changes.
