Just spent a fun time straightrning out some audio issues. I have a Klipsch
sound system I connect to with bluetooth. I was having some problems
listening to the sound track on a movie so went to switch to a set of
earphones. No such luck, but I did manage to switch the sound to the dinky
speakers on my extension monitor. I spent about 30 minutes trying different
things until I was finally able to get things back to normal. I finally had
to revert to the Win 10 Control Panel I still have installed to get things
working properly. Just goes to show that the whiz kids at Microsoft don't
always improve things with the new releases.

Every update seems to follow the formula of "two steps forward, one step
back." The one step back is usually associated with every other OS
release.

So, for example, two steps forward from 7 to 10, with one step back at 8.
It follows that there will be a step both forward and back from 10 to 11.
IOW, we've gone exactly nowhere with this update.

It's pretty though! Love the new folders.

I've had zero luck in 11 trying to pair bluetooth headphones
with the system. The phones show up as "eligible," but system
will not connect.

Just for fun have you tried pairing them with your phone? Will help
identify where the problem is.

When you play audio from a PC over Bluetooth, where is the DtoA conversion
being done: on the PC? Or on the audio device?

On the audio device.

*******

Your question kinda hints at "is there compression over a Bluetooth link".

Judging by the results, and without looking it up, yes, A2DP is
lossy compression.

If they sent 48KHz 24-bit stereo samples over the wireless link,
that would take too much bandwidth. S'PDIF, as an example of a
wired digital solution, it runs at around 6MHz. Bluetooth does not
have the transport bandwidth for that. Wifi would do it. but then
the battery on the headphones would not last for 18 hours if you
did that.
